Biography

Moses Cage Jr. passed away on Monday, October 24, 2011 after a courageous and lengthy battle with cancer. He was the beloved son of Moses Cage, Sr. and the late Mader Louis Cage. He was married to Deborah Freeman Cage. To this union was born: Michele Cage, Kimberly Mbuyamba, Lysa Cage, Tiffanie Brown, and Moses Cage, III. He was the brother of Ethel “Cookie” Brown and the loving and devoted companion of Patricia Montgomery. He was baptized at an early age by Rev. John Duncan at Pilgrim’s Rest Baptist Church. He was a member of New Hope Baptist Church. Moses attended Dunbar and Benjamin Elementary Schools, Green Jr. High School, McDonogh #35 Senior High School, and Southern University at New Orleans (SUNO) (Business, ’73). Over the years, Moses held several positions in the city of New Orleans. He was the 1st African American who ran for State Representative from the Carrollton-Hollygrove area. He was also an elected member of the Orleans Parish Democratic Executive Committee in 1990 and 2000.
